DOTr Implements 50% Fare Cut for MRT-3 and LRT-2 Starting March 23
MANILA, Philippines — Commuters traveling via the metro’s primary rail lines are in for significant financial relief. Starting today, March 23, 2026, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has officially implemented a 50% fare discount for all passengers of the MRT-3 and LRT-2.
The initiative follows a direct mandate from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aimed at cushioning the impact of soaring fuel prices triggered by ongoing volatility in the Middle East.
The DOTr confirmed that the half-price fare adjustment is integrated into the ticketing systems for seamless travel:
Stored Value (Blue Beep Cards): The 50% discount is automatically deducted upon tapping at the turnstiles.
Single Journey Tickets: Passengers purchasing one-way tickets at station kiosks will find the rates already slashed by half.
Special Sectors (White Beep Cards): Senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and students will continue to enjoy their existing mandatory discounts alongside these adjustments.
While the discount currently applies specifically to the MRT-3 (North Avenue to Taft) and LRT-2 (Antipolo to Recto) lines, the DOTr has stated that the reduced fares will remain in effect "until further notice," providing long-term support for the riding public.
"This measure is a proactive step to ease the daily expenses of our workers and students who rely on our rail systems," the DOTr stated in its advisory.
