ACCESS MCLE rolls out new initiatives for lawyers entering the 9th compliance period

For lawyers in the Philippines, learning does not end once the bar has been passed. The legal profession demands constant study, reflection, and engagement with evolving laws and jurisprudence—a commitment institutionalized through the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) program.

As members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines prepare for the 9th MCLE compliance period, ACCESS MCLE is introducing several initiatives aimed at making continuing legal education more accessible, relevant, and supportive of both new and experienced practitioners.

Among the developments are newly developed MCLE courses, a special discount program for 2026 oath takers, academic partnerships with law schools, and a lecture series featuring law school deans, along with the release of the organization’s 2026 MCLE calendar.

Continuing education as a professional responsibility

Under Bar Matter No. 850, lawyers are required to complete 36 MCLE credit units every three years as part of maintaining good standing in the legal profession. The program ensures that members of the bar remain updated with legal developments, maintain ethical standards, and continue strengthening the quality of legal practice.

For ACCESS MCLE, preparing for a new compliance period means updating both its course offerings and its learning platforms to reflect the changing demands of legal work.

New courses being developed for the 9th compliance period aim to address emerging legal issues and contemporary topics that increasingly shape legal practice in the country.

Supporting the next generation of lawyers

ACCESS MCLE is also extending support to the newest members of the profession through a special discount program for 2026 oath takers.

The initiative is designed to help newly admitted lawyers begin fulfilling their MCLE requirements early in their careers, easing the transition from law school to professional practice.

Beyond continuing education programs, the organization is also strengthening ties with the academic sector through sponsorships for the Bar Operations of Adamson University College of Law and Lyceum of the Philippines University College of Law.

Bar Operations programs play a critical role in supporting law students preparing for the bar examinations, providing review materials, academic mentorship, and logistical support during the demanding review period.

A platform for legal thought leadership

Another highlight of ACCESS MCLE’s initiatives for the upcoming compliance period is the Dean Series, a lecture lineup that will feature insights from leading law school deans and academic leaders.

The series is expected to offer participants broader perspectives on legal education, jurisprudence, and the evolving role of lawyers in society, bridging the gap between legal practice and academic discourse.

Planning ahead for the year

To guide lawyers as they organize their MCLE schedules, ACCESS MCLE has also released its 2026 MCLE calendar, outlining lecture schedules and program formats available throughout the year.

The organization continues to offer various learning formats, including online sessions designed to accommodate the demanding schedules of legal practitioners, allowing participants to complete their MCLE units while balancing court work, legal practice, and other professional commitments.

Learning that continues beyond the bar

For many lawyers, MCLE is more than just a compliance requirement. It is also an opportunity to revisit the foundations of legal practice, engage with new developments in the law, and remain connected with a profession that constantly evolves.

As the next compliance cycle approaches, initiatives such as these reflect a broader effort to ensure that continuing legal education remains both accessible and meaningful for members of the Philippine bar.
