Celebrate 70 Years of Friendship at MITSUKOSHI BGC's 3rd Anniversary
A Tanabata Celebration of Japanese and Filipino Friendship
This year, MITSUKOSHI BGC celebrates two meaningful milestones in one unforgettable season, its 3rd anniversary and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines.
Inspired by Tanabata, Japan's beloved Star Festival that celebrates the reunion of two lovers separated by the Milky Way, this year's celebration honors a different kind of enduring connection: the friendship between two nations. From July to August, MITSUKOSHI BGC brings together Japanese traditions, Filipino creativity, and immersive cultural experiences, reaffirming its role as a destination where Japanese retail, dining, and culture meet Filipino hospitality in Bonifacio Global City.
Since opening its doors in 2023, MITSUKOSHI BGC has continued to offer experiences that allow visitors to discover Japan without leaving Manila. Located within the podium of The Seasons Residences, the mall is part of the Japanese-inspired development by Federal Land together with Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd.

Anniversary Launch
The festivities officially begin on July 16 with an intimate anniversary celebration marking three years of bringing authentic Japanese experiences to the Philippines.
Opening the celebration is an energetic taiko drum performance, filling the mall with powerful rhythms that have long been part of Japanese festivals. This is followed by a lively Mikoshi performance, bringing one of Japan's most festive traditions to life as performers carry a portable shrine in celebration of community and good fortune. Guests can also look forward to a special performance by LIV Dance Academy, the first Japanese-owned dance studio in BGC, adding a contemporary touch to the festivities.

The event also marks the unveiling of Mitsuko, MITSUKOSHI BGC's beloved Kokeshi doll, in a brand-new outfit inspired by the colors of the Japanese and Philippine flags, a fitting tribute to the mall's 3rd anniversary and the celebration of 70 years of friendship between the two nations.
Experience Japanese Culture
The celebration continues on July 18 at 11:30 AM with the return of the much-anticipated Maguro Cutting Show at MITSUKOSHI FRESH. Guests can witness third-generation Japanese fish dealer and international seafood exporter Kosuke Nakaoka expertly carve a whole tuna caught just a day before in Japan and flown overnight to the Philippines to ensure exceptional freshness. Carrying on his family's more than 80-year legacy in the Japanese seafood trade, Nakaoka showcases the precision, craftsmanship, and deep respect for tradition behind one of Japan's most celebrated culinary practices.
Throughout the celebration, guests are also invited to take part in the Tanabata tradition by writing their wishes on colorful tanzaku cards and hanging them on bamboo trees throughout the mall, a cherished custom symbolizing hopes, dreams, and good fortune.
For guests looking to immerse themselves in Japanese tradition, the Yukata Dressing Experience returns every Saturday from July 18 to August 15. Eligible shoppers can enjoy a complete yukata fitting complemented by hairstyling and light makeup, making for a memorable cultural experience while exploring the mall.
Discover, Create, and Explore
This year's celebration shines a spotlight on creativity through a series of hands-on workshops.
On August 29, Co. Collectibles hosts the Summer Paper Theater Activity featuring Ensky's signature Japanese papercraft kits, allowing participants to build beautifully layered miniature scenes inspired by the season.
The following day, Pottery Sessions presents Ceramic Wishes: A Tanabata Pottery Experience, where guests can paint, decorate, and personalize ceramic pieces inspired by Japanese and Filipino motifs, or try the pottery wheel for a hands-on introduction to the craft.
Throughout August, visitors can also discover thoughtfully curated pop-ups celebrating craftsmanship from both countries. EDYA1929 showcases contemporary fashion made from vintage Japanese kimonos and obi belts, while Frankie General Store highlights garments crafted from woven Philippine textiles, celebrating local artisans through modern, sustainable design.
