Crafted with new American oak casks and created in collaboration with artist Laila Gohar, the limited-edition release brings together Highland Park’s whisky-making heritage and a fresh, imaginative approach to flavour.
Rooted in more than two centuries of whisky-making tradition, Highland Park continues to explore new expressions of its distinctive character with Between You and I, a limited-edition 17-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Crafted by Master Whisky Maker Marc Watson, the new release brings a fresh dimension to the Orkney distillery’s portfolio, with a vibrant flavour profile shaped by new American oak casks and a creative collaboration with Egyptian-born, New York-based artist and host Laila Gohar.
Founded in 1798 in Kirkwall, Orkney, Highland Park is known for its distinctive balance of sweetness from sherry-seasoned oak casks and the subtle aromatic smoke of heather-infused peat from its island home. With Between You and I, the Maison builds on this heritage through a carefully selected cask combination that introduces a brighter, more expressive character while retaining the depth and complexity associated with the brand.
A Distinctive Expression of Craft and Flavour
The 17-Year-Old Single Malt is led by 100% new American oak casks, which shape its character and deliver vibrant notes of citrus, spice, and creamy vanilla. Following an initial eleven years of maturation in refill casks, the whisky spent its final six years in highly active, unseasoned American oak casks, selected by Marc Watson to achieve the desired depth and brightness of flavour.
Bottled at 47.5% ABV and presented in its natural golden colour, the non-chill-filtered expression offers a bright and fruity interpretation of Highland Park. The use of new American oak also marks a distinctive cask choice for the distillery, bringing a lively dimension to its established whisky-making craft.
A Conversation in Flavour with Laila Gohar
Adding another layer to the release is Highland Park's collaboration with Laila Gohar, whose work spans food, art, and design. Known for her imaginative tablescapes and playful approach to storytelling through food, Gohar was invited to explore the whisky through her own personal associations and interpretations of its flavours.
Rather than relying solely on conventional tasting notes, Between You and I encourage a more personal way of experiencing whisky. For Gohar, notes of leather evoked ancient artefacts in a Cairo museum, while orange blossom brought to mind sun-drenched patios in Andalusia. Warming vanilla, meanwhile, inspired the image of a tropical volcano. These impressions became the creative foundation for the packaging, translating the whisky's character into a series of imaginative visual details.
The design features a series of illustrated windows that offer glimpses into the world Gohar envisioned while tasting the whisky. Each pack also includes a booklet featuring her first-person account of the experience, along with prompts inviting drinkers to explore their own memories, emotions, and associations through the whisky.
Through this collaboration, Highland Park offers a fresh perspective on the art of whisky tasting, where flavour becomes an invitation to explore individual experiences and imagination. It is an expression that brings together the distillery's commitment to craft and creativity, while allowing each person to discover something different in every sip.
