FREE MEDICINES, CONSULTATIONS, AND LAB TESTS: WHAT PHILHEALTH MEMBERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YAKAP

PhilHealth members can access primary healthcare services, selected laboratory tests, and medicines through the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP), a government initiative focused on disease prevention, early detection, and improved access to healthcare.

The program aims to help Filipinos manage their health through regular check-ups and early intervention, particularly for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

What Does the PhilHealth YAKAP Program Cover?

Under the YAKAP benefit package, eligible members may access the following services, depending on medical assessment and applicable PhilHealth guidelines:

  • Primary care consultations with a registered YAKAP healthcare provider

  • Health screenings and risk assessments to help identify potential health concerns

  • Selected laboratory and diagnostic tests prescribed by a doctor

  • Medicines covered under the YAKAP package

  • Cancer screening services for qualified patients

  • Referrals and follow-up care when additional medical attention is needed

Through these services, YAKAP encourages Filipinos to prioritize preventive healthcare rather than wait for symptoms to worsen before seeking medical attention.

However, not all medicines, laboratory tests, or medical procedures are automatically covered. Availability and eligibility depend on the benefit package, the patient's condition, and the attending healthcare provider's assessment.

How to Register for YAKAP

PhilHealth members must select a PhilHealth-accredited YAKAP clinic to access the program's benefits. Registration can be completed through the following channels:

1. eGovPH mobile app

Members can access the PhilHealth Member Portal through the eGovPH app, select the option to add a YAKAP provider, search for available clinics in their preferred location, and confirm their selection.

2. PhilHealth Member Portal

Members can log in to the official PhilHealth Member Portal, navigate to the YAKAP section, and select their preferred accredited clinic.

3. PhilHealth Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO)

Those who prefer in-person assistance may visit a PhilHealth LHIO for help with clinic selection and registration.

Members should prepare their PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) and ensure that their membership information is updated before proceeding.

Complete Your First Patient Encounter

Selecting a YAKAP clinic is only the first step. Members must also complete their First Patient Encounter (FPE) at their chosen clinic to establish their primary care record.

During this visit, healthcare providers may take the patient's medical history, conduct a health risk assessment and basic physical examination, provide health counseling, and determine which tests or other services may be appropriate.

After the assessment, the doctor may prescribe covered medicines, request eligible laboratory tests, schedule follow-up consultations, or refer the patient to another healthcare facility when necessary.

Can Dependents Also Benefit?

Yes. Qualified PhilHealth dependents may also register for YAKAP and access eligible services. They may select a different accredited clinic from the principal member, allowing them to choose a provider that is more convenient for their location.

Members are encouraged to check the latest PhilHealth guidelines and confirm the availability of specific services with their selected YAKAP clinic before visiting.

With its focus on prevention and early detection, the YAKAP Program provides PhilHealth members with another avenue for accessing primary healthcare and managing their health needs.
