Philippine Cinema Industry Unites for First National Cinema Day
For the first time, the Philippine cinema industry is coming together as one for a nationwide celebration of moviegoing, Filipino audiences, and the shared experience of watching stories come alive on the big screen.
The Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) officially launched the First Philippine National Cinema Day, a historic initiative bringing together key players in the industry to celebrate the stories, artistry, and heart behind the cinematic experience.
Leading the launch is Karen Zabaljauregui, SM Cinema Senior Assistant Vice President, joined by some of the country’s leading figures in film, television, entertainment, and cinema exhibition.
Among the speakers are FDCP Chairman Jose “Joey” Javier Reyes, TV producer Wilma Galvante, Film Academy of the Philippines Director-General Paolo Villaluna, QC Film Commission Director Ed Lejano, MMFF Chairman Romando S. Artes, Press Play Philippines Managing Director Nicole Castillo-Deato, Regal Entertainment Head Roselle Monteverde, and CEAP President Irene S. Jose.
The official launch kicks off the countdown to September 12, 2026, when cinemas across the Philippines will come together for the First Philippine National Cinema Day—a celebration of the industry’s shared mission, the country’s enduring love for movies, and the uniquely Filipino cinematic experience.
More than simply watching a film, the initiative puts the spotlight on what makes going to the movies special: gathering in one space, sharing reactions with an audience, and experiencing stories the way they were made to be seen—on the big screen.
For movie lovers across the metro and beyond, September 12 is shaping up to be one big celebration of Philippine cinema.
