Apple enters a new era of Mac computing with its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, featuring a tandem OLED display, Dynamic Island, and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Its top-end configuration could reportedly reach almost ₱1 million.
Apple has officially introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a major change in the company's long-standing approach to laptop design.
Unveiled on October 28, 2026, the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display comes in 14-inch and 16-inch models, bringing touchscreen capabilities to Apple's professional laptop lineup for the first time.
Unlike traditional MacBook models, users can now interact directly with the display through gestures such as tapping, swiping, scrolling, pinching to zoom, and dragging and dropping. The touchscreen works alongside the keyboard and trackpad rather than replacing them.
A new display and touch experience
The standout feature is the PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology to deliver deeper blacks, richer colors, and improved contrast. It offers up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
Apple has also brought Dynamic Island to the MacBook Pro, replacing the traditional display notch with an interactive area for notifications, Live Activities, Spotlight, and Siri.
The redesigned laptops feature a hinge engineered to provide better screen stability when users interact with the touchscreen. Apple has also optimized its own applications for touch, while developers can introduce additional touch gestures into their apps.
Powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max
Under the hood, the new MacBook Pro runs on Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, designed for demanding professional workloads such as video editing, 3D rendering, coding, and AI-powered applications.
The lineup supports up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of SSD storage, depending on the configuration. Apple also advertises battery life of up to 24 hours, alongside fast charging that can restore up to 50% battery in approximately 30 minutes.
Nearly ₱1 million for a MacBook?
The new touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at ₱214,990 in the Philippines for the 14-inch M5 Pro model. The 16-inch M5 Pro starts at ₱249,990, while the M5 Max configurations start at ₱329,990 and ₱344,990, respectively.
However, higher memory and storage upgrades could significantly increase the final price. Reported pricing has placed a fully upgraded configuration at approximately ₱979,740, bringing the high-end model close to the ₱1-million mark.
The nearly ₱1-million figure should be treated as reported configuration pricing, rather than Apple's confirmed standard retail price. Apple's Philippine store currently lists the new lineup starting at ₱214,990.
Availability
Apple opened preorders on October 28, 2026, in select markets, with the new touchscreen MacBook Pro scheduled to arrive in stores and with customers beginning November 6.
The launch marks a significant shift for Apple, which has long maintained that touch interaction belongs primarily on devices such as the iPhone and iPad. With this release, the company is bringing another way to work and create directly to its professional laptop lineup.
