'HOW VERY!' WEST END HIT HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL MAKES PHILIPPINE DEBUT IN JANUARY 2027
MANILA, Philippines — Get your scrunchies ready and polish up those croquet mallets! Westerberg High’s notorious clique is bringing its signature brand of mayhem to Manila as Heathers: The Musical makes its Philippine premiere in January 2027.
The international stage sensation will run for a limited engagement from January 21 to February 7, 2027, at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
Presented by GMG Productions in association with Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills, the Manila production will feature the acclaimed UK touring cast, bringing the musical’s dark humor, high-energy rock numbers, and cult-favorite characters to Filipino theatergoers.
A HOMECOMING FOR GERARDINE SACDALAN
Adding a special Filipino connection to the production, London-based performer Gerardine Sacdalan will take on the leading role of Veronica Sawyer in a homecoming performance.
Sacdalan previously gained international recognition for her professional debut in the UK tour of & Juliet, earning a WhatsOnStage Award nomination.
She will be joined by Louis Hearsey as the rebellious Jason “J.D.” Dean, while the infamous Heathers will be portrayed by Liberty Stottor as Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin as Heather Duke, and Lou Henry as Heather McNamara.
Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, said the musical is an exciting addition to the company’s season, highlighting its bold humor, brilliant score, and story about friendship, identity, and finding one’s place.
HIGH SCHOOL POLITICS TURN DEADLY
Based on Daniel Waters’ iconic 1989 dark comedy film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers: The Musical takes audiences into the ruthless social hierarchy of teenage life at Westerberg High.
The story follows Veronica Sawyer, an ordinary student who unexpectedly finds herself welcomed into the school’s most powerful and feared clique. But when the mysterious and rebellious J.D. enters her life, Veronica’s newfound popularity takes a dark turn, setting off a chaotic chain of events with deadly consequences.
Directed by Andy Fickman, with choreography by Gary Lloyd, the musical features a book, music, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde: The Musical).
Audiences can look forward to live performances of fan-favorite numbers, including “Candy Store,” “Seventeen,” “Dead Girl Walking,” “Meant to Be Yours,” and “I Say No.”
